Golden Rice is a genetically modified strain of rice that produces Vitamin A (or its precursor). This vitamin is deficient in many poor areas of the world, and the rice has the potential to save the eyesight of millions of people.
But elitists in the west oppose it because they get plenty of Vitamin A from their pumpkin smoothies.
Golden rice is altered to include Vitamin A. 3rd world countries lack diets rich in Vitamin A, and as a result millions of children become blind before their 5th birthday. We have many “genetically modified” foods and plant species (think apple trees, roses which nature itself has modified, let alone man. But large lobby groups have created an embargo on any shipment of what they call GMOs, with no real evidence to support what they are calling “long term risks”. This little child is being sarcastic when he refers to “organically” grown pumpkin soup when he has been sentenced to blindness and starvation because of these lobby groups.
